Are we free within society?

I think that nowadays society has completely changed the way they perceive their ideas. Society is now more open to new opinions and ideas of people. To me this is an improvement in society because this helps people to get more rights and to be more independent. Women these days believe on themselves and now that they don't have to depend on a man, instead they are more independent now. It has always been controversial whether a women have less or more rights than men. "Women can practice the trade or profession of their choice. They are present in decision-making positions such as members of a legislature, mayors, councilors, directors and managers of large companies. They can practice trades and professions traditionally reserved for men. Female workers must receive the same salary as male workers when their jobs, although different, have the same or equivalent value in the company.” This is what the quebec government has to say about this topic.

In the 21st century, we all have more freedom, but this does not mean that there are not people that are going to go against this freedom. We believe things according to what our parents/tutors taught us. Our morals and values start evolving while we grow up, we start living things and our experiences shape our morals and values. This is why society will never agree completely in what they believe is right or wrong but we are slowly improving. When we learn to understand sociology, I think we become more open minded and this way, our freedom grows bigger. Learning sociology is when we understand people's behaviour, why they act the way they do and looking for better solutions of a problem. Understanding sociology is understanding society. This is why I think that if we understand sociology, our freedom will grow bigger since we will know how to act when different situations come around.
