No we are not free in society because as the article says society shape us in the way we act, think and feel. So basically everything we do or say will be criticise by our society making us afraid to act and be by who we truly are, we will not have in a certain way the right to freedom of expression. This is a problem because people is just conforming by what society will accept so they can fit in and that is not right. Stereotypes are another problem with society, people will judge you just by your physical appearance like your body shape or how you dress. Due to stereotypes people feel that they are not allowed to express themselves because they are afraid that people will discriminate them, that only show how people in a certain way are not free like I said before, they are not free in expressing themselves. In sociology class we have talk about this problem, we talked about how persuasion affect us in our every day life and how they impact in our behavior. Also that persuasion is a big part of stereotypes because its a way in which people convince others all the negative things that they are saying is true.
Another important issue that makes us not have completely freedom is the lack of equality. Currently we can observe that women have much more rights than in the times before but still in a certain way men have more freedom and rights than women do, also still today thoughts like women belong to the house to take care of it and the children and that women are not capable of doing some specific jobs because they are only for men due that only they have the capacity to do it. Also that in some jobs women are not paid equal or do not take as much importance to their opinion like they do to man just because she is a woman, but some studies prove that women sometime can do it better than men. So my point here is that society doesn't give us the freedom that we should have because the way of thinking of people is not right so that's something we should look forward to improve it, because people should not give society the pleasure to do things they do not like or act in a different way just to feel accepted.
