Are we free within society?
One argument is that society gives us a culture and shapes our way living according to race, gender and class. Individuals are not free of society since human beings are social creatures, but if we accept the fact that we could never get rid of a society then we can make it our home, meaning that we should work less to lessen class differences. Another argument is that we are free since society can not dictate our dreams. Society demands and limit us but, we are also creative and spontaneous.
Males have more freedom than women and that's a proven fact. Men in america are able to find more jobs than women who work equally as hard. Men get preference over almost every job there is and women only earn 77% of what men earn. Women have been enslaved by men throughout history and it is only until recent years they have spoken up on their oppression but, now even in some countries there is still signs of it. One article read that “the status of women has risen significantly over the last few decades, but in many parts of the world male domination and oppression continues. In some Middle Eastern countries, for example, women effectively live as prisoners, unable to leave the house except under the guardianship of a male guardian” and this is just one example of many.
People who are in low income countries don’t have as much freedom as people who are in high income countries. Because low income countries don’t have the same systems of education as high income countries their society are underdeveloped and have an ancient way of thinking.
Having a better understanding of sociology does not increase your freedom because at the end of the day you’re still living in the same society, you still have to socialize with people, you have to obey the laws and respect the opinions of everyone that surrounds you. Only having a better understanding of this subject
only makes you see the sad reality we live in.
In conclusions, we are not free within society and we possibly never will .
